ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

Playing against Thistle at Timaru on Saturday, Oamaru started well in the first half, Devon. Webster, Woods, and Park swinging the ball about freely. Daniels, in goal, played well, but would do better with fuller use of his hands. McLean, on the right wing showed promise, but will do better with more experience. McVay and Devon were inclined to fall back too much when pressed, leaving too big a gap for the opposition to work in. However, they kept their position better than in the previous games. The senior team will be strengthened with the return of Brown and Hector from the injured list. The newly-formed Eveline United junior team will play Oamaru’s junior team on Saturday, and the youngsters are looking forward to the game with keenness. The Eastern Club (Dunedin) has accepted the Oamaru Club's invitation to a game. King’s Birthday is the day recommended to them for this match. Congratulations to P. White, C. Brown and R. Hector on being selected for representative trials for the South Canterbury team to play Southland at Invercargill. White and Hector played for South Canterbury in this game last year
