The Electi icity Controller being satisfied on the returns furnished to him that Southland’s quota of units of Electric Power is being Exceeded, has given notice, pursuant to the provisions of Section 5 of “ The Electricity Control Order, 1948,” that the State Hydro-electric Department’s Southland Electric Power Supply is required to forthwith do such things as may be necessary for the purpose of Reducing the Consumption of Electricity by its retail consumers. The Southland Electric Power Supply hereby ''requires its retail consumers to comply with the following requirements, which come into force on the 17th day. of MAY, 1948, and continue in force until further notice: — (a) As to ELECTRIC WATER-HEATING used for domestic purposes in dwelling houses: The consumer must switch off the electricity at 7 a.m. arid leave it off until 7 p.m. daily. For the purpose of switching off water-heaters where the water-heater is on a change-over switch with a range, the change-over switch must be left in the range position, but where no change-over switch is in-, stalled, the small switch controlling the water-heater must be turned off. This switch is usually located alongside the water-heater. (b) As to RADIATORS AND ELECTRIC TUBULAR HEATING: Tile use of - these in dwelling houses, shops, offices, commercial and industrial premises is prohibited where other means of space heating are available (hospitals, sickness and medical institutions excepted). In all cases their use is prohibited between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. (c) As to SHOP LIGHTING: Shop lighting and shop window lighting is prohibited with respect to display purposes after business hours. (d) As .to ELECTRIC DISPLAY AND BUSINESS ' ADVERTISING SIGNS AND UNDER-VERANDA LIGHTING: These are prohibited.
