OUTSTANDING HUNTS

FULL DAY’S OUTING JUNIORS PROMINENT The decision of the Otago Hunt Club to hold runs in the morning as well as in the afternoon to compensate for the days missed owing to race meetings has proved popular with members. There was a good turn-out of followers and spectators at “ Sea View,” Corstorphine, on Saturday morning, when the hunt was held over the properties of Messrs G. Masters and R. Fulham. A run for junior members over the same properties showed a great improvement on those held earlier in the season. Several of the younger members were not content with their own run but followed the hounds in the main hunt in the afternoon. The hunt moved on from “ Sea View ” to Brighton road, where the members had lunch at the residence of Mr and Mrs S. Robb. The afternoon run proved to be one of the best outings held by the club. The " throw-off ” took place in Mr Robb’s property amid park-like surroundings and the pack was soon on the trail. It hunted well over new country. There were 27 obstacles, comprising wire fences, hedges, post and rails, and creeks. The water jump and a fence in front of Mr Robb’s property were of formidable proportions and proved a good test for the riders and their mounts. Tire trail led through the properties of Messrs J. Geddes, Crawford Bros., and G. Kerr, and the " kill ” took place in Mr McCraw’s property. After a short break for refreshments, a hunt for juniors was held over several fences. Those who followed both hunts were: the Master, Mr J. E. Brunton, on Robert B, the Huntsman, Mr J. McCulloch, on Blue Bird, Mrs C. S. Watson on Blue Boy, Miss E. Batham on Florian, and Messrs W. Clifford on Noela, S. McKay on Johnnie Dewar. J. Smellie on Lady Pat, G. Lloyd on Jncko, G. Branks on Frances, J. Coutts on Leading Man (morning) and on Haughty King (afternoon), I. Coutts- on Billy, K. I-lastie on Tui, and F. Gorton on Sally Mine. Mr P. Innes, on Billy Boy, followed the morning run. Additional followers at the hunt were the Deputy Master, Mr K. Russell, on Royal Donald, Miss Y. Clifford on Killarney, and Messrs R. Fox on Betty, T. Fraser on Starlight, G. Trainor on Holance, F. Ford on Scout, and H. Gain on Mystery. Those who followed the junior hunts were Miss de Lautour on Sparkle, and Masters K. Hastie on Tui, K. Lloyd on Silver Fern, R. Sim on Nugget, F. Atchlev on Frolic, T. Dagg on Robert, G. Branks on Frances, F. Mariner on Diamond, and T. Macalister on Tony.
