Kerbside Artist’s Skilled Performance Of “Not Understood”

Rec. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, May 14. The opinion that the man charged with gathering alms whale reciting to a crowd outside the Tivoli Theatre had given a skilled performance was expressed by a barrister from the witness box in the Central Police Court to-day. The witness said: “ The case is no concern of mine, but I would like to help this man. 1 was a school teacher for 10 years and have had experience in poetry appreciation. This man gives a skilled performance and attracts large crowds. I have given him money voluntarily myself.” . The charge was dismissed. The poem which the defendant was reciting when arrested was “ Not Understood” by the New Zealand poet, Thomas Bracken.
