BUTTER SUPPLIES

MARKET AVAILABLE IN AMERICA BRITAIN’S NEEDS FIRST Special Coirrespondent WELLINGTON, May 14. An indication that New Zealand would later take advantage of an opportunity to exploit the United States market for the. sale of butter was given by the Minister,of Finance, Mr Nash, when he addressed the Lower Hutt Labour Representation Committee on the Havana Trade Conference. Mr Nash said that the agreement would to a considerable extent ease the position for countries wishing to export to the United States. New Zealand would now have the right along with other nations to sell butter to the United States at half the previous tariff. The United States would take a quota from all nations totalling 50,000,0001 b under this agreement. The tariff on mutton had also been halved. The period of the year during which the tariff cut on butter would operate would be favourable to New Zealand, said Mr Nash, and would offer great advantage to the Dominion later, when Britain’s present food emergency had eased.
