By the Sporting Editor May 15, 22 .. .. Waikato R.C. May 15 .. .. .. Otaki-Maori R.C. May 15, 22 Sth. Canterbury J.C. May 22 Foxton R.C. May 29 Levin R.C. Jottings Nominations for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting are due on Friday of next week. Ned Kelly has been galloping well at Riccarton, and provided he begins smartly, he should reach a place in the Claremont Handicap at Washdyke today. Great Victory has been showing slight signs of soreness, and can be regarded as a doubtful starter at Washdyke today. , _ „ Diameter does not appear to do his hesit at the finish of his races if he is

Desi at tne nmsn or nis races u ne is bustled in the early stages. May Surprise Prize Ring is not likely to be in favour for the Elloughton Handicap at Washdyke to-day. but the Ringmaster gelding is capable of springing a surprise with only 7.8 to carry. Big Teams at Wingatui So many horses are in training at Wingatui that on most mornings of the week there are very few empty stalls, and the problem with some trainers is to get boys to ride work. From now until the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting next month the track work should be more interesting than it has., ever been, especially with so many jumpers in training. Good Record The Hazlett stable has a good record with jumpers at Washdyke meetings, and last season it provided the winner and runner-up in the Pareora Steeples in Irish Wit and French Knight. The .previous year it was successful with Spanish Main. The stable representative to-day will be Lisheen. Southland Sprinter ' Geisha Girl has faced the starter 15 limes this season for three wins, one second, three thirds, and two fourths. Her most recent race was in the Orawia Handicap, of seven furlongs, at the Southland meeting, and she ran fourth to Lovemorn, Sal’s Pal and Sterling Lad after leading into the straight. By Defaulter Moonlit is building up a consistent record this season, having been started seven times for a win, three thirds, and a fourth. Her win was scored in the G. B. Starkey Memorial Handicap at Amberley, of a mile and a-quarter, in 2min Bsec. A four-year-old by Defaulter from Moonbeam, she is engaged in the Kingsdown Handicap at Washdyke to-day, and is likely to be among the favourites. Wingatui Trainer Among the most frequent visitors to the Wingatui tracks is George Feilding, who has been training horses for more years than he cares to remember. In hi's earlier days he was a prominent rider over jumps, among his successes being wins in the Great Northern Steeples and the Great Northern Hurdles on Lochclla in 1920. He also won the Otago Steeples on Sportsman in 1916, and the Great Western Steeples on Liberty in 1911 and on Silver Spire in 1919. One of his small team at present is the jumper Tamerlane, who is engaged at Washdyke to-day, and a win for him would be popular. Stable Hands During the week the writer has had the opportunity of visiting some of the training establishments at Wingatui, and he was impressed by the spick and span condition of the accommodaton provided for the boys attached to the stables. According to the stories told by some veterans of the turf, there were trainers who thought " anything would do ” for stable hands, but those days have long since dropped Into history, and there must be very few boys, if any, who have any cause for complaint in the matter of accommodation. * ; UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIALS PRAISE RATOPAX as most efficient and safe Rat Destroyer.
