PAPAKAIO PLOUGHING MATCH

Winding-up of Society An important meeting of members of the Papakaio Ploughing Match will be held on Tuesday night to discuss the advisability of winding up the society and the ’ disposal of accumulated funds ana trophies. This society has been in existence for over 80 years, the first match having been held at Redcastle in the sixties. At one time it was the biggest ploughing match in 'New Zealand, the attendance at one match being between 5000 and GOOO, with 1500 to 1800 cars Although this is a machine age with new devices in ploughing by hydraulic control and implements, there is still a great deal of interest in the straight furrow ploughed by horse teams. ■. . . The Papakaio Ploughing Match is of interest not only to the farmers of Papakaio but also to the people of North Otago, and the position with which the society is faced will no doubt be fujiy discussed before any decision is reached.
