CLOTH FROM PEANUTS

SUCCESSFUL BRITISH TESTS LONDON, May 13.

Cloth made from groundnut (peanut) fibre blended with wool is to be produced at a war-time munitions factory at Dumfries, re-equipped by Imperial Chemical Industries. Production will start next year and it is stated that if it is successful other factories may be established abroad. . The new fibre is the result of eight years’ research. The cloth is suitable for all clothing. It has already been made up into overcoats, suits, costumes, curtains, stockings and other articles and dyed in many colours. A few men have been wearing it on test in London and Glasgow without their friends noticing any difference. Imperial Chemical Industries will sell the cloth to clothing manufacturers only and supplies will mean clothes at fairly cheap prices.
