Signal Hill Memorial

The memorial on Signal Hill, Dunedin, erected to mark the New Zealand centenary in 1940, has remained uncompleted because of difficulties created by the war in obtaining marble. A supply of marble for covering the actual memorial block has now arrived in Dunedin and is being prepared by a contracting firm. The services of a sculptor have been difficult to obtain in recent years, but the committee responsible for the completion of this memorial is hopeful of securing a sculptor for work in the near future. There is a possibility of a scale model of the memorial being made, and from it the work on Signal Hill will be completed. It is hoped that the memorial block will be covered with the marble in three months’ time and that the decorative work on top of it will then be started.
