DEMAND FOR GAS

INCREASE IN DUNEDIN DIFFICULTIES CREATED The demand for gas in Dunedin continues to increase. During last month the output of gas showed an increase of 2,629,000 cubic feet, or 8.3 per cent., on that for April, 1947, states the report of the City Council Gas Committee. As a result .of the increase, it had been necessary to reduce the pressure to keep the holders floating. Under present conditions, the output could not be increased “ without getting into difficulties.” The report added that an appeal had been made to all customers to be as economical as possible in the use of gas so that “ severe restrictions ” could be avoided. The output of gas last month was 40 per cent, more than that of April, 1939.
