WINTER SHOW
UNPRECEDENTED DEMANDS FOR SPACE EXCEPTIONAL INTEREST Exceptional interest is already being shown in the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Winter Show which is to be held in Dunedin from June 4 to 9 inclusive. Demands for space for displays are proving too great to be met fully by the society. Entries do not close until next Wednesday but in a number of classes those entries already received have set new records. The show will be officially opened by the High Commissioner for Great 'Britain in New Zealand, Sir Patrick Huff. . _ The secretary of the society, Mr R. D. Stewart, told the Daily Times yesterday of the unprecedented demand for space The full demands for space for displays of motor cars could not possibly be met, he said, and neither could the demands from manufacturers for the complete space they sought to display their products. Already, Mr Stewart said, a total of 13 entries, the largest on record, had been received from women’s institute “bays.” Entries received from six districts for the Young Farmers’ Club “bays” were also the greatest since the competition was introduced. To date, the entries for dairy factory butter and cheese exceeded those of last year Particular features of the show next month will be the display by the Department of Agriculture, to which all the divisions of the department will contribute, and also the display on soil conservation. The pioneer women of Otago will provide a wattle and daub house fully furnished as it would have been almost 100 years ago.
