GRAND GALA

Sports Bodies’ Function At a meeting of the North Otago Sports Bodies’ Association on Wednesday night it was decided to . hold a grand gala and sports day on Saturday, June 27, subject to the Show Grounds being available. Mr J. Firman (Rugby Union) said the union had discussed the proposal, and was prepared to help, but it felt that the date for such a project should be suggested by the association. It was decided that the executive should form the Sports Day Committee, with power to add. It was agreed that this committee should meet fortnightly. On the suggestion of the acting secretary, Mr W. R. Laney, it was decided that the morning should be devoted to events for children. Mr W. M. Uttley was in the chair, and a welcome was extended to new members of the executive, Messrs Ashton and Firman.

The Defence Department, Oamaru, advised that no room was available at the Drill Hall for use as a gymnasium by the Oamaru Boxing Association. The question of a physical, welfare officer for Oamaru was discussed, and it was agreed to write i futher to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Parry, and to make representations to Mr A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P., asking that an officer be appointed to Oamaru. Messrs W. M. Uttley, R. Hector, A. Gilbertson and W. R. Laney were appointed to wait on Mr Nordmeyer.
