RED CROSS SOCIETY
At a meeting of the Voluntary Aid Committee held recently, the resignation of Mrs Vera McCallum as assistant commandant of No. 5 Detachment was received with regret. End-of-term reports from many junior circles show that members have been busy. Bv means of bring-and-buy sales, the Duriback, Milton and Kensington Circles have forwarded £3O to the Otago Junior Red Cross Centre. Members are showing a keen interest in their various districts in the United Nations Children s Appeal and Otago juniors during the last two years have already given £2OO for food for British and European children, as well as sending clothing and Christmas parcels. Other monetary donations have been received from Middlemarch, Alexandra. Kyeburn, Moa Creek, while babies and children’s warm garments and toys have been forwarded by the Benhar, Berwick, Broad Bay. Wanaka. Milburn and Milton Circles. On May 11 the Broad Bay Sub-centre entertained the patients and staff of the Montecillo Convalescent Home to luncheon and afternoon tea, the visitors being taken for a trip around the Peninsula. As this was the seventh annual function of the kind, the birthday cake was lit with seven candles. Iterns were given by three of the Montecillo patients, the Women s Institute Choir, Mesdames McNeill, Botting, Dickson, A. Wilson, Perriman and Mr Bathgate, and a sketch was presented by Mesdames Pitches. Taylor, Perriman and Miss Macadam. Miss F. Perriman was the accompanist.
