A SOLDIER’S REQUEST
Sir, —I recently received from an exPolish soldier, who is now a patient in a T.B. Ijospital. a request for pen-friends, and quote hereunder that part of his letter: “I knew New Zealand soldiers during the war, and was very friendly with them, so much so that I would be glad if I could get a pen-friend or a godmother in New Zealand. Receiving letters from this far-away country would contribute to increase my hope, and maybe to cure me. Therefore, I beg you to be kind enough and to do your best to find me a pen-friend or a lady willing to adopt me for moral support. lam 25 years of age, and specially interested in ‘literature and philately.” The name and address of the writer, whose letter is in English, is: “Lucian K. Olczyk, 304 Sanatorium Belligneux, Hauteville-ain-France.” If you can do anything to help Mr Olczyk I shall be grateful, and I am writing to tell him what I have done to try and assist him in his objective.—l am, etc., J. Nixon Westwood, General Secretary. Order of St. John and Red Cross Society, Wellington.
