ELLOUGHTON HANDICAP

Grill a Probable Favourite CONSISTENT RECENT FORM Seventeen horses have been paid up for in the Elloughton Handicap, the principal event at Washdyke on Saturday, and on paper the race looks fairly open. The top-weight, Grill, has 9.4, or 21b more than he carried into second place in the Timaru Cup to Flying Control, 7.5i{. In that race he was well back in the running, but came home very solidly to get within half a head of the winner. Grill is at the peak of his form and should be prominent at the finish. Lord Dundonald’s recent form has not been good, but Great Coon showed a return to form by winning the Waiau Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter, at the Southland meeting last month. Grill finished second to him anil will meet him on 51b better terms on Saturday. t Dark Arrow has built up a good record this season, and Falconbridge was second to Wide Range in the Ashburton Handicap with 7.6, or 41b less than he has on Saturday. Of those lower down in the handicap Prize Ring looks nicely weighted at 7.8, and, fit and well on the day, he is the most likely to upset the favourites. Broie may be in need of a race, but nothing on the minimum appeals more than he does. Grill, Great Coon, and Broie may be among the favourites, with Prize Ring a likely outsider.
