OBITUARY

MR E. J. KING The death occurred recently of Mr E. James King at the age of 69 years. Mr King served with the City Corporation for 40 years, retiring five years ago. His association wiin the City Corporation began in the Water Department and later he was transferred to the Sanitary Department where he beSame Chief Sanitary Inspector. ' . , Mr King was a prominent layman in the Methodist Church. In this church he served in many official positions, particularly in the service of young people. He was one of the first Scout masters in the north end of the city. In the Dundas Street Church he was a Sunday school superintendent, president of a football club, harrier club, and tennis club. Mr King was a member of the district executive of the Methodist Church, a local preacher, a member of the District Youth Council, a member of the National Council of Churches, and president of the School of Religious Education. , , The funeral was attended by a large number of friends and representatives of the many organisations in which he had been interested and was conducted by the Rev. G. Mitchell, of Invercargill, the Rev. J. A. Williams, of Roxburgh, and the Rev. L. Greenslade. An in memoriam service was later held in the Dundas Street Church. Mr King leaves a widow, Mrs E. J. King, of Highgate, one daughter, Mrs E. McFarlane, of Roxburgh, and two sons, Mr G. King, of Mosgiel, and Mr Murray King, of Lincoln College.
