Federal High Court Reserves Judgment On Bank Challenge
Rcc. 10 p.m. SYDNEY, Apl. 15. The Full High Court to-day reserved its judgment on the challenge by private banks against the Commonwealth Government legislation to nationalise banking. The hearing, which lasted 39 days, was the longest in the history of the Australian High Court. It excited great interest even on the last day, when crowds were turned away. Inside the court 27 barristers, including 14 King’s Counsellors, filled the bar table and three extra benches. The Federal At-torney-general, Dr H. V. Evatt, closed the case of the Commonwealth shortly, before noon. The Chief Justice, Sir John Latham, then announced that the judges would consider their decision and that the court would adjourn until Monday.
