Each year a wreath is nailed to the fence outside the main gate at Randwick. It was there again last Saturday, inscribed “In memory of Phar Lap, Australia’s greatest racehorse.” Old-timers may argue that Carbine was a better galloper than Phar Lap, and they may be right, but certainly no horse since Phar Lap’s death has equalled his amazing galloping ability.

A three-year-old child, David Benton whose parents live in Richmond street, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital last night with a severelyinjured finger. He received the injury when his hand became caught in a lawn mower.
