SOUTHLAND TRIALS

SEA FLOWER AND LISHEEN IMPRESS TRACK IN FIRM ORDER Special to the Daily Times INVERCARGILL, Apl. 15. Some excellent trials over all distances were recorded at Invercargill this morning, when horses with engagements on the second day of the Southland Racing Club’s autumn meeting on Satuiday were given their final work. Lisheen, Sea Flower, and Sir Garnish impressed over a mile; Eriskay and Doulton recorded the best six furlongs; and Irish King and Marie-Rita also worked well over less ground. The course proper, with the poles 30 feet out, was open, and, after a light frost, the track was in firm order. The going was on the dead side for the early work, but improved as the morning progressed. Lisheen and Sea Flower finished together at the end of a mile in lmin 48sec, the last four in 54 3-ssec. Both were doing their work particularly well at the finish, and will strip at the top of thenform on Saturday. Sea Venture went away about three lengths clear of Sea Power at the mile post, but they were not out for time. After reaching the half in 57sec, Sea Power completed the mile in lmin 55sec. He was several lengths clear of Sea Venture.

Double Light and Gunther ran a mile in lmin 53 l-ssec, the last four in 56 l-ssec.

St. Simper and Benbecula were schooled over four hurdles and both acquitted themselves well.

Marie-Rita finished a length clear of Jump Off and Effervescence over five furlongs in lmin 5 2-ssec, the last half in 52 4-ssec. Geisha Girl was restricted to a round of pace work. She has taken no harm from her race on the first day. No Charge finished five lengths clear of Haunting Refrain over a mile in lmin 54sec, the last half in 56 2-ssec. Great Coon came home the last half of an easy mile in 54 2-ssec, and worked very freely. Red Prize finished a length clear of Gleneagles over five furlongs in lmin 6 2-ssec, the last, half in 53 l-ssec. Eriskay’s Dash

Doulton and Eriskay both put a lot of dash into their work in running six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec, the last four furlongs in 52 4-ssec. Doulton, who has not been racing up to his best, worked much more keenly than usual. Eriskay has freshened up after her Easter racing, and she will be a serious contender on Saturday. Verdant reeled off six furlongs on his own in lmin 19 4-ssec, the last half in 53 2-ssec, and he did it particularly well. Haughty Dick and String Band took lmin 21sec for six. the last half in 53 3-ssec, and they finished together. On his own, The Saint sprinted half a mile in 52 2-ssec —a good effort. Dark Warrior, Forage, and Robot were sent over four of the schooling hurdles, and gave quite a good display, with Dark Warrior showing the way. Irish King finished clear of Night Rider and Oscillate over half a mile in 51 3-ssec—the best half of the morning. Subtraction and Young Bob, the latter under a firm hold, sprinted four furlongs in 53 l-ssec. Baffling shaded Triumphal over six furlongs in lmin 19 4-ssec, the last four in 53 3-ssec.
