EARLY TEACHING DAYS RECALLED The last meeting of the Dunedin subbranch of the Otago Educational Institute took the form of a social reunion of teachers and former teachers. About 40 former teachers were welcomed by the president, Mr R. R. McNeill. Personal

experiences of the early teaching day* were recounted with humorous detail by Mr W. McElrea, who first began teaching in 1881, Mrs W. Begg (1890). Mr G. T. Palmer and Mr Magnus Thomson. Greetings were received from many others who were unable to be present. Music items were given by Mr R. McNeill and Mr Ivan Hanna, while Miss Hendra provided the piano accompaniments. After- supper an enjoyable and entertaining evening was concluded by the singing of Aula Lang Syne."
