OTHER REMITS

Over 30 other remits were dealt with by the conference. One from Takapuna requesting the Government to appoint a thoroughly competent official, at the earliest possible date, to co-ordinate municipal composting systems, and to assist local bodies contemplating this activity, was carried. The conference also decided to suggest to the Government that, in view of the national importance of the utilisation of waste materials, an eminent authority should be invited to visit New Zealand to advise on municipal composting. A Howick remit that the Government be urged to include community centres and war memorials as purposes for which land can be taken under the Public Works Act, was carried without discussion. Delegates and wives will pay a visit to Whare Flat this morning, and in the afternoon will attend a garden party at the Botanic Gardens.
