CITY LOOK-OUT
FAVOURED LOCATION CLAIMS OF UNITY GROUND Unity Ground, adjacent to Eglinton road, Mornington, and adjoining Stafford street, has been created by the depositing of tens of thousands of yards of spoil, mostly clean refuse deposited by dust carts. The view is unsurpassed in the city, and when members of the committee of the Amenities Society visited the spot recently, together with Cr D. C. Jolly, chairman of the City Council Reserves Committee, and Mr M. R. Skipworth, superintendent of reserves, they all agreed that no better location could be chosen for the creation of a city look-out point, with facilities for motor car parking and seats of pedestrians. Subsequently, the Amenities Society offered to provide for the cost of four seats, and through the society, the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church has provided the finance for two further seats. It is now proposed to ask the society’s architect, Mr Arthur Salmond, to prepare plans for the look-out, with a view to an investigation of the possibility of some of the A. S. Paterson bequest being used to finance the project partially. In this event, the City Council would be asked to provide a fair proportion of the finance required.
