DOUG HARRIS’S PLANS

TRAINING TRIP TO ICELAND N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Apl. 14. Doug. Harris, the New Zealand Olympic runner, has accepted the invitation of the Amateur Athletic Association to accompany its team to Iceland at the end of May. The team, which includes MacDonald Bailey, the well-known coloured sprinter, and Donald Findlay, the hurdler, will be managed by Mr J. C. G. Crump, secretary of the A.A.A. and manager of the British Olympic team. The team will leave England by air on May, 27 and return on June 3. It will take part in two meetings at Reykjavik. Harrit recently passed through London en route from Cornwall, where he spent a holiday, to Loughborough after a vacation from college. In London he discussed his training schedule with Dr Arthur Porritt, representative of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, who approved it and agreed that Harris should not take Eart in more than six meetings efore the Olympic Games. Dr Porritt added that he was discussing the possibility of Jack Lovelock’s trainer advising Harris who has not finally decided the meetings in which he will run prior to the Games. He has received many invitations through the A.A.A. including visits to Amsterdam and Belfast.
