NOTES FROM RICCARTON

AUSTRALIAN GELDING GOES HOME Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Apl. 14. The Australian gelding Silver Link, who came here a few months ago to contest some of the important cup races, has been sent home. He must have had some good form in his own land to warrant sending him to the Dominion, but he did not disclose it here, I think that L. J. Ellis, after giving the visitor the best of attention, realised some time ago that the trip was doomed to failure.

Sanskrit was in good condition when she came back to Riccarton after a sojourn at Wingatui. She and Flying Orders were mates in a brilliant half mile sprint and these two speed merchants will ensure pace from the start of the seven furlong Amberle.v Handicap on Saturday. Sanskrit will be retired to the stud after this race.

Kill Fast and Gold Medallion are two of the latest recruits to jumping at Riccarton and they are shaping well in their education.

Bruce, who started on a spell in the spring, was brought back a few weeks ago, owing to an ailment, believed to be due to ergot poisoning. He improved under treatment, but put on a lot of condition, so L. J. Ellis has started him in work as the only way to cope with the situation. It remains to be seen, however, whether he will stand up to a severe preparation, as his spell in the spring was necessitated by ricking a joint.
