WAGE INCREASE
WAREHOUSEMEN’S AWARD P.A. WELLINGTON, Mar. 12. A wage increase of 4s a week for senior male workers is granted by the Court of Arbitration under the New Zealand (except Westland and Canterbury) general warehousemen’s (other than softgoods) award and the New Zealand (except Westland and Canterbury) softgoods warehousemens award, issued yesterday. The new wage rate for senior maie workers is fixed at £7 a week. Senior female workers, under both awards, are granted an increase of 3s 4d a week to bring them to £4 12s a week. Junior workers have also been granted increases. A traveller other than a country traveller is to be paid a minimum wage of £7 10s a week for the first year and £7 15s after two years' travelling service* exclusive of car allowance and travelling expenses. ,A country traveller is to be paid a minimum of £8 a week exclusive of car allowance and travelling expenses. Workers required to work overtime after 6 p.m. are to be given an interval for a meal and paid 2s 3d tea money If any holiday, except Anzac Day, or Easter Saturday falls on a Saturday or Sunday it is to be observed on the following Monday. The annual holiday is to remain at a fortnight. The workers asked for three weeks. The awards are not to apply to workers receiving more than £475 per annum. The awards come into force on March 22 and continue for a year.
