WOMEN’S GOLF
TOURNAMENT AT ST. CLAIR QUALIFYING ROUNDS Large fields contested the qualifying rounds of the Dunedin women's golf championship and the Sherrill Cup competition at St. Clair yesterday,, In the morning a cold wind made conditions unpleasant and the weather wa.s reflected in the scores, the majority of which were only average. The present holder of the championship title, Miss Helen Buchanan, failed to qualify ir> the main event. By far the best performance was registered by Mrs J. E. Salisbury, of Invercargill, whose rounds of 84 and 82 carried her to the head of the list of the eight who qualified. Results:— The eight who qualified in the Dunedin championship were: Mrs J. E. Salisbury, 84—82—166; Miss K. Rutherford, 86—88— 174; Mrs J. Andrewes, 92—84—176; Mrs H. Lawless, 94—87—181; Mrs J. Dolan, 96—87 183; Miss E. Nutt, 94—89—183; Mrs Toomey. 93—90—183; Mrs B. Wilson, 92—91—183. Those who qualified for the Sherriff Cup .were; Mrs C. Marett, 97—99—196; Miss J. Gorman, 103—99—202; Mrs Latty, 100—104 —204; Miss D. Gray, 99—105—204; Mrs Colbourne; 100—104—204; Mrs Morgan, 106—99—205; Miss C. James, 107—100—207; Mrs R. Blair, 105—103—208. The teams’ handicap trophy was won by Otago No. 3 (Mrs B. Wilson, Mrs Marett and Miss J. North) with an aggregate of 478. Invercargill (Mrs Salisbury, Mrs Andrewes and Miss M. Adamson) were second with 481. To-morrow’s Draw The draw for to-morrow’s L.G.U.
