COLONEL SMART SCHOOLS WELL Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 10. A nice bit of schooling was done at Riccarton this morning when Colonel Smart, a Colonel Cygnus gelding in Register and Hanrahan's stable, led Milton Abbas in a run over four hurdles, both jumping well. Milton Abbas, a newcomer in the team of A. and W. McMullan. is just a beginner. Colonel Smart will have his first hurdle race soon. Little Billy went well bv himself over four hurdles. R. B. Robinson hopes to race him over hurdles on the last dav of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting. F. A. Roberts (Kartikeva, Diameter, Irish Note, Citril), C. C. McCarthy (Beechwood, Indian Dawn), L. J Ellis (Ronald Macdonald) and R. McLennan (Resolute) went north last night for races at Trentham. F. D. Jones (Magical Musselmnn, Maryburn), C. G. Humphries (Arctic Circle, Minion), ,T. c. Tomkinson (Revolte, Corai Arc), C. B. Dawson (Fini gin) and J. S. Shaw (Desert Girl) will travel to-night. Volomai will not make the trip to Westport. where A. S. Ellis will have only Tweedside, who will be seen among the sprinters. Maka Maka i s now in C. J. Walsh’s team on the West Coast but she may return to Riccarton after the Westpor'l meeting.
