COMPLETE DISARMAMENT

RESTRICTIONS IN JAPAN

ALL MILITARY TRAINING PROHIBITED

NANKING, Feb. 29. Rigid restrictions on the manufacture of arms in Japan, and the abolition of military, naval and air installations and institutions, were the main points of a programme adopted by a meeting of the Far Eastern Commission. Except for small arms for the police authorised by the Supreme Command, Japan will be kept thoroughly disarmed to prevent a possible resurgence of aggression. Military installations, except where required for the Allied occupation forces, Japanese police, or regarded as reparations, will be dismantled. Captured Allied warships or merchant vessels must be kept intact and returned to the countries concerned. All military training will be prohibited and Japanese military and auxiliary reserve groups must be dissolved. Japanese school text books will be purged of military information and material running counter to the principles of democracy. It will be the responsibility of the Supreme Command to take measures necessary to prevent a revival of the army, navy, gendarmerie, and secret police.
