TRIUMPHANT DEBUT
CHILD PRODIGY CONDUCTS ORCHESTRA Rec. 11 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 29. An eight-year-old Italian conductor, Ferruccio Burgo, made a triumphant debut with a symphony orchestra at Carnegie Hall on Saturday. The curlyheaded boy in knee pants showed no signs of nervousness as he conducted the 80-piece orchestra in five operatic overtures and Beethoven’s first symphony. Professional critics praised his good sense of rhythm, notably his musical memory and feeling for melody. He conducted publicly at Fiume at the age of four.
