A milestone in the history of the Dunedin Jockey Club will be reached to-morrow, when “the race of the century,” the Centennial Cup, with its rich stake of £4OOO and a cup of great intrinsic and historic value will be decided, and will be watched by thousands of enthusiasts from all parts of the Dominion. The field for the race is one of the best that has ever gone to the post for any event at Wingatui and the betting is likely to take a fairly wide range as the race looks very open. The rain which fell on Monday night’would, if anything, improve the track, and provided there is no further fall in the meantime the going should be perfect. The Cup is timed to start at two o’clock and horses likely to be in favour for the respective events are:— 11. 0: Early Settlers’ Hurdle Handicap. —Wee Mac, Voltaire, Gunther-Percy bracket. 11.45: Haeremai Handicap. —Olio, Helio, Grania. 12.30: John Wickliffe Handicap.— Detract, Sea Venture, Flying Control. 1.15: President’s Handicap. —Excellency, Deep Harmony, Stagestruck. 2.0: Centennial Cup.— Howe, Indian Dawn, Signal Officer, Sir Garnish. 2.50: Bernicia Handicap. —The Hob, Kosher, Finigin. 3.40: Victory Handicap. —Magnaform, Sal’s Pal, Merry Lancer. 4.30: Edinburgh Handicap. —Pestee, Lady Melrose, Beechwood.
