WILD WEST SHOW
SUCCESSFUL OPENING Crowded out long before the start, Skuthorpe’s rodeo and circus made a successful New Zealand debut at Port Chalmers last night. As the management pointed out, the display was essentially a Wild West show, and consequently most of the evening was devoted to exhibiting the prowess of buck-jumpers and performing horses. Invitations to boys to have a ride on the ponies met an eager response, and many potential horsemen fell quickly but safely. There were two local candidates for the £2O prize offered to anybody who could stay on the horse Aristocrat for 15 seconds, but they both failed. Although horses and riders dominated the programme, acrobats, gymnasts, and the inevitable clowns provided light relief, and all were well received.
