FALL FROM BRIDGE

YOUNG GIRL DROWNED Y

P.A. NAPIER, Feb. 24. Falling off a footbridge leading across the sea channel from Port Ahuriri to West Shore this afternoon, a four-year-old girl, Janice Ormond, was drowned. She had been playing with another girl, aged three, on the bridge. The first intimation of the tragedy was the return home alone of her companion, saying the girl had fallen into the water. The body was recovered two and a-half hours later on an island 200 yards away in the harbour. The child had lived for the past two years with her grandparent, Mrs A. Lewis, of West Shore. Her parents live at Mahia.
