TIME BOMB DISCOVERED

PLACED IN COLONIAL OFFICE Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 23 Following a telephone warning to the Colonial Office Research Department by a voice with a foreign accent,Scotland Yard officers rushed into the building and discovered what was described as a time bomb in the hall. The police removed a small box, the contents of which Home Office experts are examining. The building is opposite the Houses of Parliament. Guards on all Government buildings were placed on the alert after the discovery of the box. The box contained two large dry-cell batteries, attached by wires to a glass jar containing a fluid A woman lift attendant discovered the box behind a door in the entrance hall. The box had a Jewish mark on it. It was taken to the Woolwich arsenal for tests to ascertain whether the contraption could explode.
