Dunedin’s Petrol Quota Increased to Meet Needs Of Centennial Visitors
Dunedin is to have an increased allocation of petrol in order that retailers may have sufficient supplies to meet the extra demand caused by visitors to the centennial celebrations. This advice was conveyed to the Daily Times last night by the president of the Automobile Association, Otago, Mr G. W. Ferens. He said that he was not in a position to give details about the distribution of the increased quota, but that a definite assurance had been received from the Oil Fuel Controller that the gallonage would be raised. This message means that the Automobile Association, the retail motor trade and the Mayor, Mr Cameron, have been successful in their oft-pressed claim for an increase. It now remains to be seen whether the increase will be sufficient for the needs of all the visitors to Dunedin who will make demands on the city’s petrol quota.
