“MISS NEW ZEALAND”
FORTHCOMING OVERSEAS TOUR
p.A. WELLINGTON, Feb. 10. Miss New Zealand ” (Miss ' Mary Wooton) will begin her overseas tour on March 30, when, accompanied by her parents, Mr and Mrs L. Wooton, she will leave Auckland by air for Australia. Details of her itinerary for a world tour are practically complete. Miss Wooton will arrive at Wellington to-morrow in continuation of her New Zealand tour arranged by the Tourist and Railways Departments and will later visit New Plymouth, Waitomo, Rotorua, Auckland, and Wanganui in that order. In Sydney a special “ Miss New Zealand ” Committee has been set up and a full programme arranged, including a reception by the Lord Mayor and a trip to Canberra to meet the Prime Minister. Miss Wooton will leave Sydney by airliner on March 7 for England. Arrangements are being made for her to be met at all stepping places en route and shown points pf interest. *
Miss Wooton is scheduled to arrive in London on March 14. Full details of her British itinerary have not yet been received but her engagements will include attending the Anzac Day service, after which she will be received by the Mayor of London, a royal garden party, and visits to a mine and a shipbuilding yard. The humbler side of life will not be forgotten, and she will probably visit a magistrate’s court in the East End of London. She will also visit the Portsmouth naval establishment to see H.M.S. Victory. Miss Wooton will spend the last two weeks in April at the J. Arthur Rank film organisation.
“ Miss New Zealand ” will be flown to New York on the opening day of a new airport, and will be the guest of the city of New York, with the traditional drive down Fifth Avenue She will also be featured in the golden anniversary celebrations of New York. After New York, Miss Wooton will make a tour of Canada and will later visit Hollywood before leaving for New Zealand.
