MARTHA MINE OUTPUT

After a steady decline over five years the gold output of the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Ltd., was slightly higher in 1947. The quantity of ore crushed also showed a small increase, but the silver content was. lower. The total tonnage crushed in the year was 121,797 short tons—an increase of 1011 tons over the previous years figure, but much below the earlier years of the mine. Gold won totalled 29,019 fine oz, an increase of 4860 z. and the silver yield was 220,2130 z, a reduction of 19470 z. Operations were carried on during 208 days in 1947, against 234 days in 194 b. The company’s final return for the year, cabled to London, states that for the period ended December 31 the mine opei - ated 30 days, crushing 18,835 tons of ore for 5133 fine oz. of gold and 28,349 fine oz. of silver.
