REMARKABLE FIGURES
With his double century yesterday afternoon Sutcliffe not only reached 1000 runs for the second successive season, but he also gained an average of over 100 in first-class matches in two consecutive seasons. Last season he had an aggregate in these matches of 722 runs for an average of 103.14, but he improved on these figures in the same number of innings this season, with an aggregate of 747 and an average of 106.71, His record on Carisbrook has been remarkable and is worthy of recapitulation. His scores have been: v. M.C.C., 1946-47: 197 and 128. v. Auckland, 1947-48: 99 and 103. v. Canterbury, 1947-48: 118 and 125.
v. South Island, 1947-48: 7 and 208 not out.
These performances give him an aggregate on Carisbrook of 985 at an average of 140.71.
