IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE

The first two immigrants to be allocated to Oamaru arrived yesterday and were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr M. F. E. Cooney, Chief J. D. Hamilton (North Otago Scottish Society) and departmental representatives. Both immigrants, Messrs P Metcalf (Lincolnshire, England) and S. Macdonald (Glasgow) are registered electricians and will be employed by the State Hydro-electric Department at Lake Waimen commented on the way they had been received in New Zealand and said they, were looking forward to their new appointments.
