R.S.A. FLOATS
CAVALCADE OF PROGRESS FIVE UNITS CONSTRUCTED The floats he had seen were little less than magnificent, and he considered that those which were to represent the Returned Services’ Association in the Cavalcade of Progress had a character and significance of their own, said Mr H. H. Parata, when making a report on behalf of the Centennial Celebrations Committee of the Dunedin R.S.A. to a meeting of the executive last night. Mr Parata said that two of the more important floats which had been constructed for the R.S.A. were housed at the Taieri aerodrome. The R.S.A. had five floats, and, although they were fairly austere, their nature was in keeping with the purpose for which they were built — depicting the growth of the services. A full representation of marching personnel had been obtained after some initial difficulty, added Mr Parata. The president, Mr M. S. Myers, said that all the floats were of a calibre not previously seen in New Zealand. Mr Parata’s report was received. Present at the meeting were the president and Messrs Parata, W. P. Wellington, R, S. Orr, R. J. Calvert, N. G. Stewart, S. P. Cameron, W. G. Nicolson, D. L. Wood and A. J. H. Jeavons. A full report was given by Mr J. A. Matheson, of the Clinton branch, on the sub-division of the Willowburn estate for tho settlement of servicemen.—lt was agreed that a special sub-committee should inspect the property as soon as possible. , Seven nominations were received, six transfers In and seven transfers out were approved, and one death was reported. It was reported that another appeal for funds to continue the food parcels for Edinburgh ex-servicemen scheme was being made
