SNAKE IN TRAM

SIDNEY PASSENGERS ALARMED SYDNEY, Feb. 5.

Women screamed and men yelled in alarm when a highly venomous brown snake five feet long landed in a tram at Earlwood, Sydney, yesterday. The conductor, in a scene of wild excitement, killed the snake with repeated blows of his point-hook. The incident occurred as the tram was approaching a corner. A truck ran over the snake and threw it into the second parr of the tram coupled behind the front section. Passengers shouted in fright as the snake writhed on the floor. The conductor, Mr W. Baldry, shouted a warning to the driver, who braked the tram to a halt. Surrounded by crowds, Baldry struck at the snake until he killed it.
