KOREAN INVESTIGATION

EFFORTS BY COMMISSION SEOUL (Korea), Rec. 10.30 p.m. Jan. 22. A sub-committee of the United Nations temporary commission on Korea will attempt to consult nine Korean political figures of north and south Korea, including Cho Man Cik, better known as the “Korean Gandhi." He is a well-known moderate, a Presbyterian elder and member of the Y.M.C.A. trustee board. Cho has consistently refused to participate in the Communist dominated Government in north Korea. Political leaders whom the subcommittee proposes to consult include men representing what a commission spokesman termed “ balances between the extreme Right and extreme Left.” The manner in which the sub-commitr tee will attempt to reach Cho and others in north Korea are not disclosed. The Soviet authorities have not yet replied to the commission’s request for permission to pay a “ courtesy call ” on the Soviet commander in north Korea, Lieutenant-General Korotkov.
