REFINERY IN BRITAIN
OPERATION BY SHELL GROUP IMPORTANT DOLLAR-SAVING VENTURE N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent. Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 23. The large oil refining plant at Heysham, in Lancashire, which was built during the war for the production of aviation spirit, will be taken over from the Government by the Shell group,' which states that it will be producing refined spirit at the rate of 300,000 tons yearly by mid-summer. All crude oil used at this refinery will come from the Middle East and as a result it is expected to become an important dollar saver.
