IDLEALONG CLASS DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP FIRST RACE ON MONDAY The New Zealand Idlealong championships for the Moffat Cup will begin off the Victoria wharf on Monday, when one race will be sailed over a windward and leeward course, beginning at 2 p.m. Alternate races will be held over this course and a triangular course. In the Moffat Cup competition, for yachts of the 12ft 6in class, five races are sailed under the points system. Further races will be sailed on Tuesday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Wednesday at 10 a.m. If any boat wins the first three races outright, it will be awarded the - cup. If the ultimate winner on points in five races is beaten three times by any other boat, the latter’s crew can challenge the points winner to a further race, and the winner of this race is awarded the cup. The present holder of the Moffat Cup is Auckland, which won it at Lyttelton last year. Fourteen boats will compete in the championship. They are (name of boat and crews given in parentheses):— Hawke’s Bay (Neried; R. Gunson, R. Williams, A. Zoen). Wanganui. (Rastus; M. Wall, S. Wall, R. Poulter). Wellington (Cavalier; G. Gestro, M. Gestro, P. Kitto). Bay of Plenty (Rose Marie; R. Macknell, R. Bailey, P. Southey). Nelson (Tainui; T. Leeds, M. A. Rope, N. Day). West Coast' (Popeye; A. Kroering,.L. Paul, N. Payne). Canterbury (Alouette; A. L. Sinclair, A. Childs, R. Gilmore). Otago (Amina; N. Montgomery, S. A. Walker. P. Smith). Southland (Doreen: H. G. Budd, A. Naismith, R. Rouse). The names of boats and crews to represent Whangarei, Auckland, and South Canterbury have not yet been supplied to the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association. For the convenience of spectators, the competing boats will carry their provincial letters on their sails, e.g., O. for Otago. The windward and leeward course is: Start between flagged pile and flag on Victoria wharf, thence round flagged buoy off Challiss, thence around flagged pile off Kitchener street wharf, and around flagged pile off Victoria wharf. Finish between start flags. Twice round, nine miles, all marks to be rounded on starboard hand. . The visiting crews, who arrived in Dunedin yesterday, are billeted, at the R.N.Z.N.V.R. Headquarters in St. Andrew street, and the boats are housed at the Otago Yacht Club’s sheds at the Boat Harbour. The courses and race times have to be confirmed by the Idlealong conference. , . ... There will be a race for the visiting Idlealongs and local boats after the Nees Memorial Cup Race about 2.30 to 3 p.m. to-day.
