Unity Chambers, 137 Lower Stuart street. SUNDAY, 6.30 p.m. Subject: “THE HOLY SPIRIT! DOES ANY PERSON POSSESS IT TO-DAY? ” All Welcome. No Collection. CrutH J << TESUS SAID I AM THE RESURit RECTION AND THE LIFE ” (John, 11- 25 ). No one can enter the presence or the Father unless Christ introduce him; and because He is the resurrection and the Life,” Paul told the Christians of Coiosse that their life WAS HID with Christ in God. But if immortality is AN INHERENT PRINCIPLE OF HUMAN NATURE, how can it be said to be hid in Christ? It should read our life IS HID IN OURSELVES! But in relation to the true believers, Christ “ the Life ” is termed “ our life,” because of all their hope for eternal life is embodied in Him. Hence He is called “ Christ our hope.” “We know,” says John, “ that WHEN He shall appear ... we shall see Him as He is.” (1 John 3:2-3.) The idea then, of an immediate translation from earth to heaven at death is excluded; for the true believer IS NOT TO APPEAR in glory till the appearance of Messiah ON EARTH TO RAISE THE DEAD. “ For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT OF GOD is Eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom. 6-23.) If, then, eternal life be the gift of God through Jesus Christ, it must surely be obvious to the meanest capacity THAT IMMORTALITY IS NOT INHERENT, or hereditarily desired, and that immortality is a principle EXTRANEOUS TO the constitution of man, and consequently if enjoyed, must be derived as a gift from Him who alone has it to confer. This gracious gift (immortality) is an eternal reward, as the rejection of those who seek for it in THEIR OWN WAY, instead Of in the way appointed by God, be to them an eternal punishment. “ Behold, I come quickly, and My reward is with me.” (Rev. 22.12.) None of the men of faith that lived and died before Paul's day had passed into glory, for the Apostle says of them. “ These all died in faith. NOT HAVING RECEIVED THE PROMISES . . that they WITHOUT US may not be made perfect.” (Heb. 11: 13, 39, 40.) Immortality is discounted entirely (Gen. 3-22.) “And LEST he put forth his hand and TAKE ALSO of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever,” God drove the man out and we do not find that any exception for that part of man being made that is alleged to be spiritual and that cannot " eat bread.” The sentence of death WAS PRONOUNCED ON MAN AS HE STOOD (Gen 3-19), he was entirely made out of the dust, and so he is to return entirely to it again. The only redemption God promises, is out of the death state —the grave. “ God will redeem m.v soul from the power of the grave.” (Psl. 49-15.) There was no idea of His soul being deathless, or it would not have required redemption, nor would (His soul) have been exposed t'o the grave at ail, but “All go to one place, all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.” (Eccl. 3.20.) A man cannot, at the one and same time, be an immortal soul and “long for immortality"; the idea, though popular, is absurd. FREE “ BIBLE TRUTH " LITERATURE Address: P.O. Box 857, Dunedin.
