FEDERATION OF MALAYA ESTABLISHED

SINGAPORE, Jan 21. Sir Edward Gent, Governor of the Malaya Union and the Sultans’ Malay States, at Kuala Lumpur, to-day signed a treaty establishing a Federation of Malaya consisting of nine Malay States and the settlements of Penang and Malacca. Singapore Island remains outside the federation as a separate colony.
