Bookmakers Still Active

Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Jan. 18. Activity of bookmakers on Wellington Cup day yesterday discounted the suggestion that they would take an extended holiday or go out of business in protest at the Gaming Commission’s findings. Because of the wet day, many intending racegoers stayed at home * and followed the popular practice of placing their bets by telephone to their bookmakers. The executive of the Dominion Sportsmen’s Association met earlier in the week to discuss future policy, but no further statement is made on its* behalf.
