Success at Oamaru Meeting

SANSKRIT BEATS SPRINTERS

The Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting was held yesterday in perfect weather, but the attendance did not appear to be up to the average. Grill showed a return, to form by winning the President’s Handicap decisively from Sumra, who ran up to the form she showed at Waikouaiti. Sanskrit won the. Plying Handicap from Bath Slipper after being prominent throughout. The track was in splendid order, although somewhat fiery in places, and fast times were recorded. During the day the totalisator handled £30,568 10s, eompai*ed with £33,288 last year. Following are the details: —

Abbeydorney, Uranium and Supplement. Moongold strode, to the front well down the running, to win going away from Abbeydorney, with Loyal Guest third, and Black Orphan, who' came from well back, fourth. Supplement and Uranium were next. High-weight Handicap Broie hung slightly at the start, and Divorced was the first to show out from Hansel, Altruist, Springwater and Lady Welback. Broia moved up down the back to be fourth to Divorced, Altruist and Hansel. Falconbridge and Lady Welbeck •wert: at the back of the field. Hansel was squeezed back on the far turn, and Lady Welbeck and Falconbridge started to move up. Lady Welbeck and Broie joined Divorced at the home turn, and Falconbridge got a slant on the rails. Falconbridge and Broie galloped stride for stride over the last furlong, and Falconbridge just won. Hansel finished third, ahead of Lady Welbeck. President’s Handicap The field gave trouble at the barrier, but got away to a good start, with Detain and Double Cross leading past the post from Beechwood, Triumphal, Botany, and Air Ace, with Grill and Pandemonium last. As they swung into the. back Triumphal drew up to Detain, but otherwise there was no alteration in the running. At the far turn Triumphal and Detain were followed by Double Cross, Beechwood, Sumra, Air Ace, Botany, Grill, and Pandemonium. Into the straight Detain and Triumphal showed the way to Double Cross. Beechwood, and Sumra, and Grill was threading his way through the field. The last-named continued his run and galloped away to be an easy winner from Sumra, with Double Cross third, followed by Air Ace, Pandemonium, and Beechwood. Waitaki Hack Handicap The last to leave were Dowlair, Renege, and Royal Robe. Right Through began well, and led out from Milly Mandy, Glen Cona, Rahine, and Deficiency. At the half-mile Defiiency moved up behind Right Through, and was followed by Milly Mandy, Renege, Glen Cona. Rahine, and Front Page. Right Through shaded Deficiency into the straight, followed by Renege, Milly Mandy, Front Page, and Glen Cona. In a fine race home Right Through just hung on to beat Deficiency, with Front Page third and Glen Cona fourth. Oamaru Trotting Handicap

Past the post Dillon Again led from Super Scotch, Sandy Logan, and Trueleen. Running across the top, Paradale went out to the front to lead into the back from Sandy Logan, Abbeydorney, and Super Scotch. With six furlongs to go Paradale showed the way to Abbeydorney, who was followed by Sandy Logan, Doris Grattan, Super Scotch, and Persistence. Captain Kinder and Jan Marie collided and fell on the bend. Abbeydorney went into the lead at the home turn from Paradale, Sandy Logan, Super Scotch, Logan Scott, Doris Grattan, and Happy Dale. Abbeydorney paced home a clear winner from Sandy Logan-, and Blonde Sailor, who “ came from the clouds,” was third. Happy Dale finished fourth. Flying Handicap From a good start the field ran almost in line over the first half-furlong. Sanskrit showed out past the four-furlong post, and was followed by Gold Song, Bath Slipper, Air Lord, and Lovemorn in close formation. The field was bunched at the home turn, with Sanskrit and Bath Slipper just shading the others. Sanskrit worked clear with a furlong to go and went on to win from Bath Slipper, with Gold Song and Lovemorn dividing third honours. Farewell Handicap Ned Kelly was. left, and Repudiate started slowly. Beau Son began best and led out from Agenda, Kinlass, Night Owl, Antibes, Maka Maka, and Sally Gazelle. Across the bottom bend Agenda went up to Beau Son, and Antibes trailed them. Beau Son and Agenda were first into the straight, and a furlong from home Beau Son was clear from Night Owl, Antibes, and Repudiate appeared to suffer a check. Beau Son went on to win from Antibes, with Night Owl in third place and Repudiate fourth. Then came Agenda. Show Boy, and Kinlass.
