DARBY AND JOAN CLUB

At least one section of the British community is making provision for its older inhabitants. In a recent 8.8. C. talk Georgie Henschfel told listeners of a Darby and Joan club, which is run entirely by voluntary subscription, in the London borough of Streatham. It is a club for old people, *both men and women; a place where old-age pensioners can live comfortably witnout having to worry about queuing and shopping or becoming lonely. They are provided with accommodation varying from single rooms to three-room flats; and they can, if they like, eat communally for very little. A mid-day meal, for instance, of meat, two vegetables and a pudding, costs ° n, ‘Smriehow?" 6 said Miss Henschol. “ in this not too cheerful contemporaiy scene it cheered me enormously to read of these old people being cared for and made happy.”
