TARGET ASSURED

IMMIGRANTS TO AUSTRALIA CANBERRA, Jan. 2. Australia's target figure of 70,000 immigrants a year is certain to be reached in 1948, and shipping is assured for that number, said the Immigration Minister, Mr A. A. Calwell, to-dav. That figure will be greatly exceeded in the following years. Of this year’s quota, 30,000 will be assisted migrants from the United Kingdom, and it is expected that at least another 20,000 British people will come out. The remainder of the 70.000 will be Americans, Balts, and other nationalities.
