TWO BROTHERS DROWNED

P.A. AUCKLAND, Jan. .2. Two brothers from Taumarunui, named Love, were drowned late this afternoon at the mouth of the Marakppa River, about 40 miles from Kawhia. They were returning from a fishing expedition with two other men and were crossing the river on foot. The tide was running out at the time and the party, which was heavily loaded with fishing bags, got into difficulties. A nearby resident saw the men's predicament and rescued one of them, named Mr Barney Campbell, of Otorohanga. Another member of the party scrambled out, but the Love brothers were drowned before they could be assisted. Residents of Marakopa were dragging the river for the bodies tonight, while they were waiting for the police to arrive from Kawhia.
